Game: Modern Warfare 2
Platform: PlayStation 3
Genre: First-Person Shooter

Campaign Grade: 8/10
Multiplayer Grade: 10/10
Overall Grade: 85/100

Comments: Infinity Ward returns this year with it's newest project Modern Warfare 2. Set five years after Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the story picks up with Task Force 141 and the Army Rangers. Campaign is, although very enveloping, all together too-short, a plague that has haunted the Call of Duty franchise for years. With multiplayer, Infinity Ward does little to the proven formula of Call of Duty 4. Updated guns and adjustments to perks (Juggernaut removed, Martyrdom fixed, etc.) coupled with the inclusion of Death Streaks and customizable kill streak rewards makes this likely the most addicting multiplayer game of all. The largest and most glaring disappointment is the well documented lack of true HD gameplay to which we have become accustomed. Notoriously running at a maximum of 600p resolution, Infinity Ward does not deliver to the current gaming standards. Great fun to play, but there's better games to look at.

Game: God of War Collection
Platform: PlayStation 3
Genre: Action/Adventure

Campaign Grade: 9/10
Multiplayer Grade: N/A
Overall Grade: 80/100

Comments: Basically, you've got the critically acclaimed God of War games (I & II) all on one fancy-schmancy Blu-ray disc. Both games retain everything that made them enjoyable, and add a boost graphically. A major complaint, however, is that only in-game graphics are rendered at HD capacity. All cutscenes have the blur we've come to loathe from the PS2. Otherwise, a great way to get into the series before March arrives.

Game: Need for Speed Shift
Platform: PS3
Offline Rating: B+

Pretty good. Controls are simple and responsive (very similar to other EA driving games). Car selection is pretty good, but not as good as other games. The free Team Racing Pack that you can download is interesting, and provides 4 awesome vintage rides (as well as a Toyta Supra). Tracks and track variations are cool. Naturally includes Laguna Seca, Nordschlife, and (yay!) Road America. Overall a good game.

Game: Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition
Platform: PS3
Rating: A

Ok, so Fallout 3 itself is over a year old now, but the game of the year edition is only a couple of months old! Contains all 5 DLC packs and costs the same as the original did when it came out. The AI is great as every different type of creature or human has different stats (so they all react differently). Some things confuse me though (such as a sawn off shotgun needing 5 point blank headshots to kill a super mutant, while the combat shotgun only takes 1, even though my sawn off was in better condition and had a higher damage rating). Random events make the game interesting (as well as a pain in the ass) and can reward you with powerful items/weapons/armor early in the game. Weapon and armor variety is pretty big, and it's tough to choose and maintain a favorite weapon and armor set (as the best weapons are usually unique and cost a sh!tload to repair). The fact that every little thing you do can affect the way the game transponds makes this better than GTA in some respects. The lack of weather disappoints me (but you cannot have everything). The DLC add-ons are interesting. Completing Operation Anchorage provides access to one of the best weapons in the game (the Gauss Rifle) as well as some awesome armor (T-51B which provides an insanely high damage resistance with no loss to agility, and Chinese Stealth Armor that renders you practically invisible). The Pitt provides some fun melee weapons and a couple of cool assault rifles. Broken Steel allows you to actually continue playing the game after completing the final mission (which is where Broken Steel takes effect and continues the main mission strand). Point Lookout is cool as it adds some fun redneck style weaponry (Double-Barrel Shotguns and Lever Action Rifles FTW!) at the cost of some insanely difficult "swampfolk" that inhabit the place. Finally Mothership Zeta brings in the always loved Alien Abduction idea to the game, allowing access to awesome alien energy weapons. The DLC areas can get laggy or even freeze, and the game itself seems to have several bugs and glitches that get annoying at times, but overall it's an insanely fun game and well worth trying out.

Game: MAG
Platform: PS3
Rating: B

One of the biggest multplayer games ever released (excluding MMORPGs), it is actually faily disappointing in several regards. First, your character isn't very customizable (unlike what the devs said in several interviews I've seen) looks-wise. The game is horribly unbalanced towards S.V.E.R. forces (I've lost 90% of the games I've been in vs. S.V.E.R. forces). And the legendary 256 player game mode isn't unlocked for a long, long time (level 8 or 10 I believe). Graphics aren't the best, but that's not surprising considering the size of the game. Only 10 maps are available, but the Acquisition maps feel like 2 separate maps and the Domination maps feel like 3 separate maps. Only your squad or people within a certain distance can hear your mic chat (unless you are a platoon leader or company commander) which limits tactics on a large scale, but allows for a good amount of squad tactics (unless you are unlucky and get put in a squad with nothing but foreigners, which has happened to me twice... Once with Frenchmen, and once with Italians). The Acquisition mode is biased towards the defender (even more so if S.V.E.R. is defending) but can make for some fun battles. Domination is more a clusterf*ck than anything as tactics generally go out the window immediatly. The APCs that the attacker have access to are decent anti-infantry platforms, but are useless versus almost everything else. A fun game, not as much action as Modern Warfare 2, but still pretty fun.

Game: Aliens vs. Predator Demo
Platform: PS3
Rating: A-

Yes it's a demo, but it's great none-the-less. One of the more balanced FPSs I've played. All three species have their strengths and their weaknesses, and they each focus on the other's weaknesses fairly easily. A little annoying when you get finishing move "chains" (simply, an Alien or Predator ambushes something and grabs it, executing a finishing move, and another Alien or Predator then uses a finishing move on the Alien or Predator that just used the finishing move... if that makes any sense...). A quick lookover the three species:

Aliens are quick and agile and can run on walls and ceilings. Cannot take much damage, but can certainly dish it out from ambush positions. Should not take on other species head on, and should try to ambush them to execute finishing moves. No ranged weapons means they should stick to the shadows and enclosed areas rather than wide open areas.

The Predator's key to success in this game is it's cloaking ability as well as finding it's weapons quickly. When armed with energy mines, or the trademark cannon, it can quickly become a dangerous foe. Findable weapons are always a one hit kill when they hit, but are relatively inaccurate. It's close range melee isn't as impressive as it should be. The three different visions come in handy, however it's annoying to have to swap between the main two (thermal & alien vision). Overall a solid choice, truly comes into its prime when it finds it's weapons.

Marines are my favorite choice. The long range combat king (until the Predator gets it's cannon) the marine has access to some awesome weapons. The Pulse Rifle is accurate and has a huge clip capacity and is the starting weapon for a Marine. The sniper rifle is fun, but not much sniping going on in this game. The shotgun is king at close range, using secondary fire to blast whatever needs it at close range. The heavy machine gun is great and locks on to targets when it's acquired. Overall a solid choice, but unfortunately easy to be ambushed. The flashlight that you can use can help in corridors and small rooms, but anywhere else, it gives away your position quickly.

Overall, the demo for AvP is awesome, and really makes me look forward to this game. Very Happy

Game: Aliens Vs. Predator (actual game)
Platform: PS3
Marine Campaign Rating: B-
Alien Campaign Rating: C
Predator Campaign Rating: C+
Online Multiplayer Rating: A-

So the single player campaigns aren't what I hoped for. And the controls for the Alien are much more complex on many of the maps due to uneven surfaces and such. But it's a decent game overall. Multiplayer is a good deal of fun. The different modes and maps are fun, but some of the maps themselves are somewhat unbalanced. The species themselves are balanced enough, but the maps seem to prefer one species over the other two. Gateway, for example, is awesome for Marines (and possibly Predators if the player is good with the cannon) due to some of its more open spots. And the MG42 Smart gun is fairly common (more spawn points than other maps). Another example is Pyramid, which is entirely close quarters, extremely dark room/hallway combat and heavily favors a Predator with a smart disk.

Got a lot.

Rock Band Unplugged
system: PSP
grade: B

Rock Band. Of course, with bigger and better things to do, I'm sure this was the "we don't need to spend too much time on this" game. And actually, it turned out well. Obviously this game cannot be played on guitar, but rather buttons. It takes a long learning curve, this is no typical rock band. You play ALL the instruments in career mode, and I have trouble mastering it on easy. It's that hard. But never fear, in a quick play mode, you can play one single instrument, and you can switch at any time in the game if your bass track is too boring or whatever. For $40 you get 40 songs, which is good, because the set list is excellent. It's a compilation of Rock Band's past including everything from The Who, Rush, Soundgarden, what have you. Certainly a good pick up for a quick play every now and then, and if you get bored with the 40 songs, go to the store, buy some more for $2 a song. Which, IMO, is a rip off. And in follow the leader fashion, Guitar Hero is creating their own PSP game, but it's ok, neither game will exist in ten years, or at least Guitar Hero.

Real Racing
system: iPod Touch/iPhone
grade: A

So far, the only racing game for the iPod that truly satisfies. This game contains four car classes with about 40 different paint schemes throughout all the classes, and about 15 tracks to keep you busy for hours. The career mode is good as well, it contains three tracks per championship and three different levels to do them all in. C, B, A (easy, medium, hard). For $4.99 it's worth it, and did I mention you can race online?

Sim City
system: iPod Touch/iPhone
grade: C+

I always liked Sim City, I found it fun and relaxing. Not so much this version. You think touch screen would make everything better, not true. Building roads, water systems, and power lines are a bitch to put it quite personally. Otherwise it's not so bad. But one thing that really lowered the grade of this was you can't listen to your music in the game. All you get is some kind of Fusion/Jazz on constant replay, and it puts you to sleep. I fell asleep with this in my hand a few weeks ago. Not to mention you can fill up the building space relatively easy, in an hours time, your city ill be wall to wall. But again, it's ok, just have a second iPod to listen to, lol.

Battlefield Bad Company 2

System: PC, PS3, 360 (Review on PS3/360 versions)
Singleplayer: N/A (Not finished yet)
Multiplayer: A

Battlefield makes yet another return with its newest release. With their goal to make the best Battlefield yet, they pretty much did just that. It's classic Battlefield gameplay, refined to such a smooth point it functions just as well as Camp of Duty. This installment features smaller maps (a major complaint in BFBC1), less vehicles (uber spawn killing machines in excess lol) and more guns. Of course those ADD COD player will hate on it because to be successful, you must sacrifice yourself for the team. Say what?! Yes there are no incentives to camp or be a lone wolf. The best way to play is to stick with your team and do the impossible, be creative! There are dozens of weapons at your disposal:

Choppers can also run people over, or jump out and parachute down to knife someone

ATV's make great car bombs

Building collapsing can crush everyone in there

Power drills and defibrillators are one hit KO's

The best thing about the online, when working together a great feeling of teamwork and accomplishment comes about. That is why I love this game. It's the COD4 of Battlefield.

Well, might as well do the other big shooter game...

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Singleplayer: D
Multiplayer: C

Ugh, where to start? Lets talk briefly about the story. Well what the ___ is this crap?? I beat it in 3 hours, and it actually was able to bore me. Way to fail.. plot holes, terrible voice overs, ugh D is generous.

The multiplayer, omg this pile of crap.. I'm just going to list the pros and cons

PROS:
Many guns
Smooth movement
Decent graphics
Many Game modes
... yeah

CONS:
Maps designed for campers
stupid attachments just for campers
akimbo, enough said
P2P servers
LAG LAG AND MORE F'ing LAG. I shot that guy jeez die already
Overpowered [retarded] killstreaks, that promote CAMPING
the community
No sense of teamwork whatsoever. Don't say "but...S&D" because I will call you a fanboy
tons after tons of glitches
just an added layer of BS

I didn't think they could get WORSE from W@W, but they did. At least next year they have plans to milk this to the ground like Guitar Hero, and I won't have to hear howw 'awesome' it is. Don't buy this mediocre game full price, or at all with Bad Company 2 out. It sucks.

OVERALL 6/10
